Corcovado / Rio de Janeiro

The Corcovado is one of the hills of the city of Rio de Janeiro, famous in Brazil and in the world by its statue of Christ the Redeemer of 38 meters height.


The Christ Redeemer is one of the main symbols of the country and offers a privileged panoramic view of the city of Rio de Janeiro.




In 2003 were completed installation works of lifts and escalators in place. Before, it was necessary to win 220 steps to enjoy the landscape.



On 7 July 2007, the statue of Christ the Redeemer was elected in a vote on one of the new seven wonders of the world

The Corcovado Hill has 710 meters of height and is found in the Tijuca National Park. The Corcovado is situated to the west of the city center, but even so can be observed from long distances.


The Corcovado Train Station, in the Cosme Velho, it is possible to catch the trains leaving every half hour and twenty minutes lead to traverse the forest and reach the top.

Without doubt, the most memorable attraction of Morro do Corcovado is the statue of Christ the Redeemer that the ring gear and that attracts more than 1 million visitors from Brazil and abroad to the year. The statue was inaugurated on 12 October 1931.The top of the hill allows a panoramic view of the center of the city of Rio de Janeiro, of Morro do Sugar Loaf, the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon, the beach of Copacabana, Ipanema beach, The Gávea Hippodrome of Leblon beach, Botafogo Cove, the Flamengo Embankment, Maracanã stadium and of different neighborhoods and slums of areas south, central and north of the city.



It is recommended that visits to the Corcovado Peak are made on sunny days to avoid the clouds that often prevent clear views and without hindrance.
